What is diaper rash and how is it treated?

In this article, we explain what diaper rash is and how to prevent and treat it. We discuss the causes of the problem, the symptoms and treatment, and the best diaper options for the baby.

What is diaper rash?

Diaper rash is an irritation that occurs in the baby’s groin and genital area due to moisture or lack of hygiene. There is a lot of sweat glands in the groin area. Although diaper rash is classified as a mild skin lesion, it can turn untreated into a complex problem. In the worst cases, it can lead to skin ulcers.

Causes of diaper rash

  • Heat
  • Moisture (sweat, urine or feces)
  • Lack of ventilation

These in turn may be due to the following:

  • Poorly dressed or fitted diaper
  • Poor sanitation of the baby’s genital area
  • Using the same diaper for too long

Symptoms and treatment of diaper rash

Symptoms usually occur in areas covered by the mantle and are clearly distinguishable. Redness of the area first appears, leading to pain, swelling, and itching. The baby may also reflexively withdraw further when you touch his skin. If the condition gets worse, it can lead to peeling of the skin.

Babies with diaper rash tend to cry constantly and seal diapers. Parents must then be patient. Instead of despair – which is a common feeling in these situations – it is better to look for solutions and try diapers, for example, to help alleviate the unpleasant symptoms of this ailment.

What is diaper rash and how is it treated?

Diaper rash should be treated gently so that the baby does not feel more uncomfortable. The first step is to wash the entire genital area with clean water and neutral or antibacterial soap.  Soap should only be used after the safety of use has been confirmed with a doctor.

After washing, gently dry the baby’s skin using a soft cotton towel. Keep in mind that baby’s skin is much more sensitive than adult skin,  so a soft towel is very important for your baby.

What should not be done if the baby has diaper rash?

  • If your baby has this ailment, you should avoid putting your baby in synthetic materials.
  • Do not put talc on your baby’s skin.
  • Do not apply perfume or scented oils to your baby’s skin.
  • Do not use universal creams.
  • Also, home remedies containing vinegar, aloe vera or other medicinal plants should never be used on baby’s skin.

Things to consider when choosing a diaper

When choosing diapers, it is important to consider some basic factors. First of all, you have to think about the size of the baby.  Wrongly sized diapers can feel uncomfortable and cause more problems ranging from a little rubbing to abrasions.

Second, think of the diaper material, as many disposable diapers contain fragrances that can cause allergies. Parents should also check that the diaper does not contain dioxin. Dioxins are chemicals that can be harmful to a baby’s health and pollute the environment.

There is a large selection of diapers on the market today, but not  all diapers still meet dermatological quality standards.

When we take all of this into account when looking for environmentally safe products,  we have found new diaper options that offer everything we need:

  • Comfort
  • Cleanliness
  • Security

Ecological solutions

Many mothers have chosen to try organic diapers  mainly because they have not been made using chemicals that could potentially be dangerous to their babies ’skin. They also consider these diapers to be good investments as they are washable and reusable.

Organic diapers also have another big advantage:  they come in one standard size and thus adapt to the baby’s body effortlessly. So mothers don’t have to change diapers to new sizes as babies grow.

When it comes to baby care, we take care of these things all the time. Attention should always be paid to small details, such as the materials from which baby products are made.

Thanks to these steps, we can be at peace and know that the diapers we use will not harm our babies.
