Single Parenting Can Be A Difficult But Awesome Experience

Single parenting can be a difficult but awesome experience

Raising a child alone is not the end of the world. There are many fathers and mothers who even want to do this. Others, on the other hand, face that situation as a result of the abandonment or death of the partner.

Whatever the situation, this is a fact:  raising a child alone without a partner is complicated, but it can also be revealed to be the best experience of life.

While it is true that until recently, raising a child alone was a bad thing in people’s opinion, today things are different in many places. There are those who want a parenting experience without a partner, meaning they don’t want to share parenting with someone else. This is a justifiable solution, which is being made by more and more people today.

On the other hand – and perhaps this is the situation for most single parents –  there are those who have recently been rejected by their partner. It may have been a promise of love and partnership forever, but pregnancy has changed everything. When this comes to the fore, only brave people who understand responsibility and compassionate love can face the situation. They don’t start as single parents out of duty, but because they want to. They get a sense of fulfillment from it.

Whatever the situation, it is not our intention now to think about the reasons why mom or sometimes dad has to or wants to fill both boots. This time,  we want to talk about strategies that can help a single parent in their daily lives. These tips can also help you become stronger than you know you can become, and live that best phase of your life to the fullest.

The truth about raising a child without a partner

The truth about single parenthood is this: it’s tough. Some may see a strong woman — a mother who smiles whenever she takes her baby here and there. But there is much more to a single parent’s mind. Lots of different thoughts and feelings, which we will consider in the following.

The fear of not being able to take care of everything is present

A mother who grows up alone gives the best of herself to her baby or child. It makes him happy to see a child sleeping peacefully in his bed, but when he himself goes to sleep, it is common for him to wake up more than once a night to worry.

  • Anxiety and fear are present. And what if I can’t handle everything? What if I’m fired this month? What if I have to turn to my parents again? What if my child gets sick again? So what do they say at work?
  • It is normal for such thoughts to come, and they  are not irrational but real fears that a mother raising her child alone will experience more than a few times.  However, every day is new, and every day you get to achieve wonderful things.

Man has to be both mother and father at the same time

This is a very common mistake many mothers and fathers make when raising a child alone – the thought of having to fulfill both of these roles at once.

  • Here’s one very simple thing to remember: we are everything to our children. So there is no need to fulfill those classic roles in the family: a strict working father and a warm, loving, and homely mother. We must accept that both women and men can do all these things.
  • Both women and men can be trusted, guides, set boundaries, teach what is right and wrong, and be the main source of love for their child. So women and men can both be all of this.

A single mother also needs a social life

A mother who raises a child without a partner is at risk of focusing all the attention, senses, thoughts, and worries on her child — to such an extent that she forgets herself.

  • Be careful with this, because if you don’t take care of yourself, and if you don’t have small moments of relaxation and social life, you run the risk of developing depression.
  • Let your family help you, rest every now and then, and accept the help of your life.
  • Create a good network of friends for yourself, that is, people who can give you the appropriate level of emotional relief. With them, you can laugh, get time away from childcare and experience new things.

Also, don’t be afraid to meet new people – or potential partners. Being a single mother doesn’t mean you can no longer be “in the market”. You can find love if this is something you want.

The place of the absent father and how to talk about it for the children

Sooner or later, your child will ask why the father is not present. For the sake of the child, in order for his emotional life to develop well,  it is never advisable to create a sharp hatred towards the absent father or to give him an idealized image as well.

  • Children need honesty and, above all, an emotional level of peace that anger and unfounded thoughts have not been able to develop.
  • You need to communicate maturity and balance and teach your children that your family is a good team and you two will be OK.
  • All in all, it can be said that being a single parent is not easy, and every day is a challenge. But the  bond you create for your children is awesome, and this is something you should be proud of every day: that you do a great job.
